Plea for Honesty
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is a lunatic.
I think a lot of humanities problematic programming can be found in our sayings. We’ve all heard:
In the land of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.
What a joke. If you were the only person claiming to have the magic power of sight you would be medicated and locked up at best. You might be murdered for heresy.
Empaths see emotions like most folk see with their eyes. Constant lies are as confusing to us as it would be if everybody was always arguing with you about what color things are or whether there was even such a thing as sight at all. We lie to each other all the time in ways big and small. Empaths have to dedicate a huge amount of energy to trying to make sense of it all.
Advice for most folk:
Just try to be more honest. Start with yourself. The real-world behavior will follow if you concentrate on being as honest with yourself as you can be. It’s super hard. We never really achieve full self-honesty. It’s also quite personally rewarding because the better we get at being honest with ourselves, the better we can operate in the world rationally.
Advice for empaths:
Don’t tolerate dishonesty unless you have to. It’s too much darn work. We like being alone. Why bother with people that aren’t ready for you? If you do have to put up with a dishonest person, my strong opinion is you have to be aware of the potential hazards without acting irrationally.
Match up rational real-world evidence with your intuition. Don’t let a liar detune you and cause internal delusion. In a situation where there is no time to process by yourself, you have to just err on the side of assuming they are lying without evidence to the contrary.
We can’t ignore what we feel about the lies and we can’t rationally act on our feelings without evidence. I look for real-world evidence. When I find it, I know. I am confident. I can stand up for myself and not feel terrible later.
